The First Trip.
Brooke Schocke traveled to Hawaii with her family in 2016 to visit Pearl Harbor. Although only 11 years old, she was incredibly moved by the events of that excursion. The tour of the Memorial of the USS Arizona and the stories that were told led her to want to meet a World War II survivor and help the veterans of America's greatest generation. Unfortunately, she did not have an opportunity to meet anyone during this trip.
The Second Trip.
Undeterred, Brooke and her family visited Oahu again in December 2017 in hopes of meeting a survivor, but again had no luck. When Pearl Harbor Survivor Ray Chavez passed away in 2018, Brooke was devastated, but she was determined to achieve her dream of meeting a survivor of the USS Arizona despite these setbacks.
The Meeting.
Brooke met Donald Stratton in Colorado Springs, CO on December 7, 2018 and became instant friends with Mr. Stratton and his family. Since that meeting, Brooke has talked with many other WWII veterans, and one of the common wishes of these incredible men and women is that we never forget what happened.
Meeting Donald Stratton and other WWII veterans has fulfilled Brooke’s dream, which continued with the founding of A Hero’s Dream, Inc. and its mission to help veterans achieve their dreams, because they helped us achieve ours.
